Hatched for Growth: From Trainee to Trailblazer Through Global Learning

Jewel, receiving her Certificate of Achievement from Aviagen’s Eddy van Lierde, Global Head of Incubation Services

At Bounty, we believe that investing in our people through professional development is investing in our future. We’re thrilled to share the story of Jewelry T. Maligsa, Production Manager of Bounty Hatcheries in Luzon, who recently returned from an impactful training experience abroad, further cementing our commitment to continuous learning and professional development excellence.

Jewel, who has steadily built her career with Bounty over the past 12 years, began her journey as a Management Trainee in 2012. Her passion for continuous improvement and professional development, both for herself and her teams, sparked her interest in global training. This exceptional opportunity came through an endorsement from her hatchery executive.

“When I found out Bounty would be sponsoring my training, I was deeply grateful and humbled,” Jewel shares. “It was a proud moment, proof that the company believes in my potential and is committed to helping me grow.”

The Training Experience: Mastering Hatchery & Incubation Management

The Training Experience: Mastering Hatchery & Incubation Management

Jewel attended the Aviagen EMEAA School – Hatchery and Incubation Management Module in Budapest, Hungary, from April 4 to 11, 2025, furthering her professional development .. This globally recognized course brought together hatchery professionals from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, hosted by Aviagen, a world leader in poultry breeding.

The seven-day program was packed with intensive learning and practical workshops. Key topics included the science of incubation, best practices in egg handling and storage, incubator management, chick quality assessment, biosecurity, and advanced data analysis.

“A typical day involved interactive lectures in the morning, followed by group workshops in the afternoon where we collaborated with fellow hatchery professionals from different countries,” Jewel recounts.

One of the most impactful lessons for Jewel was understanding the biological fundamentals of embryonic development and the precision needed in temperature, humidity, and turning schedules, noting how “minor deviations can significantly affect hatchability and chick viability.” She also learned that “egg handling during storage and pre-warming practices before setting can greatly improve hatch performance”. The efficiency of incubation technologies and recent trials also left a strong impression.

A truly memorable experience was the embryo staging exercise. “Embryo stage is frequently discussed in seminars… but we never had the opportunity to see or practice it firsthand in our own hatcheries,” she explains. While navigating different cultural perspectives and the fast-paced technical sessions presented challenges, Jewel valued these as opportunities to expand her adaptability and global understanding. This professional development experience broadened her appreciation for international collaboration and knowledge-sharing, reinforcing that “while our environments may differ, our commitment to excellence is universal.”

Application and Impact: Bringing it Back to Bounty

Back at Bounty, Jewel is already applying her new knowledge gained through her professional development experience. “We’ve started revisiting our egg room temperature monitoring system, using UV light for investigating egg quality, embryo mortality analysis and using all this data to analyze hatch performance.” She has also shared all reading materials from the training for her team’s reference.

This training strongly aligns with Bounty’s Vision and Values. “Applying what I’ve learned allows me to uphold integrity in every aspect of hatchery operations, ensuring that our processes are transparent, ethical, and science-backed,” Jewel states, linking it to the value of “Lead with integrity.” Her pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement directly supports Bounty’s value of Courage to Change and Innovate.

Personally, this experience has significantly boosted Jewel’s confidence and strengthened her leadership skills. It reaffirmed her commitment to mentoring her team and sharing her newfound knowledge. She credits Bounty’s vital support, “from logistics to moral encouragement,” for the success of her training.

Bounty’s Commitment to Learning: Making Lives Brighter

“Bounty’s commitment to employee development is not just a promise, it’s a reality,” Jewel emphasizes. “The company doesn’t hesitate to invest in people who show dedication and leadership potential.”

Her message to colleagues is clear: “Never stop learning. Growth opportunities like this don’t just elevate us—they uplift the entire team. When one of us grows, we all grow”.

Bounty’s investment in its people, exemplified by Jewel’s training, is a direct way we live our Purpose to “improve the lives of families through life’s bounty”. Better-trained leaders lead to better results, better products, and ultimately, “Lives Made Brighter” for the communities we serve.

Looking Forward: A Future of Shared Growth

Moving forward, Jewel aims to mentor hatchery heads and hatchery men, showing them that growth is not only possible but encouraged. She aspires to build a team of dedicated, skilled, and insightful individuals, empowered by shared knowledge and best practices.

Her advice to colleagues considering similar professional development opportunities: “Go for it. Be brave. Be open. Say yes to growth. And trust that Bounty will be behind you, every step of the way”.

Jewel Maligsa’s story is a testament to Bounty’s commitment to nurturing talent and continually raising the bar for excellence, ensuring that we remain “The trusted choice, everyday, everywhere.”
